Counselling

With children I use a play therapy approach to provide a safe environment that allows children to communicate through play. Play increases a child’s ability to regulate their emotions, social skills, self-confidence, processing of trauma and communication skills.

With adult clients I can work with you to develop a better understanding of a new autism diagnosis, provide strategies and emotional support when needed and provide practical support to help you and your child navigate the new diagnosis.

I provide a neuroaffirming approach that considers the needs of all involved.

Autism consulting and coaching

I can work with you on a range of needs from providing behaviour support, visual support to help build a routine, social stories, information about autism and some general tips and information to try and make your life simpler. These sessions will be tailored to each family’s needs.

1hr initial session with the parents or carers to discuss the needs of the family and what support can be provided.

50-minute follow up sessions which may be conducted in your home, with your child present, to implement strategies or supports as necessary.

Early Intervention and School readiness group sessions

These sessions have up to 6 students at a time and helps your child prepare for ‘big school’. The sessions run for 10 weeks (term time) for an hour at a time. They include:

  • Communication skills – practice sitting with peers and listening to a teacher, putting up their hand, sharing their thoughts and feelings, listening to stories and songs.
  • Social skills – following simple rules, playing games (including support around winning and losing), making friends, taking turns, and sharing.
  • Pre-literacy and numeracy skills activities to prepare your child for school.
  • Fine motor activities.

These sessions will be held in Erina. Due to the nature of the service and in preparing your child to be independent at school we ask parents to please drop off their child and then collect at the advised time.
